desertifcation-standard grade geography

i am currently studying standard grade geography at my school and we have recently been told that we will have a test on desertification this coming thursday in which we will have to write an essay on desertification. we are allowed to take up to 20 words into the test with us, and i have no idea how to summarise desertification into 20 words ( we have to include causes, effects and ways to prevent it too)
can anyone help?!

you could try as causes - degradation, biodiversity,overgrazing, deforestation, erosion, slash and burn. The areas are also affected by climate change and often occur in sub-humid regions. Prevention = windbreak (if poss natural) to prevent erosion and evapotranspiration and use of leguminous plants which extract nitrogen from the air. Hope this is a start for you.
