Who was the guy that was realy famous for whistling? I think he had his own records! And was he Brittish?

I think he was called Whistling Jack Smith, but I also seem to remember that a singer, possible Roger Whittaker, also whistled on records.

Probably Roger Whittaker; not certain but I think he was South African?

You may be thinking of Ronnie Ronalde ,I think he was English, he noe lives in New Zealand.

It was Ronnie Ronald I am sure. The others were singers too but our Ronnie only whistled. I seem to remember he made a record called "in a monastery garden" and it was quite nice with very creditable bird song. Dates me doesn't it?
