Please can anyone help me. In the name Yasutaro Mitsui (a Japanese inventor) which name is the surname? After seeking advice on the net I am totally confused. Thanks.

Japanese people have their surname at the end, so Mitsui is his surname.

By golly. That was quick. Thanks. I was confused because on one site it said that when included in English sites they reversed the placing to match us.
probably but not necessarily... In Japan itself they're more likely to put the surname first but when dealing with foreigners they may reverse the order so as not to confuse people.

Thanks jno. Fabulous robot. I read somewhere that Mitsui died a few days after the photo was taken. If true it's very sad.
I have two Japanese brothers at school.Their surname comes last.
