My husband is Ghanian, I am a UK citizen, my husband is living in Ghana, hopefully in about 12mths I will be moving there also , in the meantime my husband was supposed to be coming to the UK today but his Visa has been refused on the grounds that they do not believe his intentions are to visit only (even though he has a return flight booked!) they say he will not return to Ghana. I am so devastated, I miss him so much and I was looking forward to seeing him. How can they do this, his return ticket is booked, He has applied for a visa to VISIT ie holiday!! He has NO intention of staying in this country, he has business to do back home!

maybe the government did a check on him and found out that he is a terrorist and he was trying to get a job in the traffic lights control center in london causing chaos.

Hope this helps
Whoops!!!

Ignore that post....wrong thread.
of course they can do it, if they have reson to believe he will not return to ghana. Although he has a return flight booked, it means nothing - he could just smply fail to turn up at the airport!

i would imagine the fact you are married makes them believe more that he might just stay here - if he misses you as much as you miss him then surely he might be tempted just to stay to be with you.

why don't you go out there to see him in the meantime? didint this sort of difficulty occur to you before you married him?

Yes bedknobs, I have spent the last year going to Ghana every other month, in Ghana we operate an NGO (non profit organisation) which is becoming very succesful in helping orphanage children and the local villages, he however I thought it might be a nice change for him to see how I live in the UK, and of course to meet my family, I know long distance relationships can be difficult, but NO it did not cross my mind that he would have a difficulty in coming here for a "holiday"!!!!!!!!!!!!!
oh well go c him instead and stop moaning

I can't believe all the kids on this site giving stupid answers. You can definitely tell that it is the school holidays!

Also.. Bednobs (or should I call you knob)... what a ridulous this to say? "didn't this sort of thing occur to you before you married him"...

Boona, I hope something works out soon.
boona, it is awful that he was refused entry. Can you ask what proof they have to reject his Visa? I would not let it drop as I'm sure they wouldn't stop an American coming to the UK for a holiday. Just because he is from Ghana does not automatically mean that he will try and stay. what prejudice!

i know it won't get your husband here any quicker but I would write to the Home Office about this.

good luck

Hi MiniN,
U have hit the nail on the head with your answer! That is exactly why. Apparantly there is a big "to do" about the way Ghanians are treated at the UK Embassy in Ghana. They are spoken to like 2nd class citizens. My husband has 2 business's in Ghana, he LOVES his country, of course he is going home, he wouldnt even WANT to live here!!. They do not have ANY evidence to prove otherwise. I am certainly going to appeal.
