I have been trying to find a book or website that tells more about Alice Hume, the woman featured on the Channel 4 series "Victorians Uncovered" - she falsely accused her Indian lover of rape to protect her husband's reputation in 1883 India. Does anyone know more about this story or know of a book that mentions it?

Thanks!

channel 4 website may be a good place to start if you look at the resources link you will find the books and websites they used to make the programme which may include more information on AH. (www.channel4.com/history)
There is no obvious source for this story on the channel 4 website. But it does provide the name of the Indian lover - Giridhari Mehter. That name appears on only two websites (that the major search engines can find), the channel 4 website and this review of the programme:

I have to agree with the reviewer: the treatment of the actual evidence (the letter which apparently revealed the truth of the case years later) was derisory. And you would think such a story would be better known and documented. Can anyone help?
