i once watched a programme about a coastal area somewhere in the uk where the ground is made up of shingle and the people who live there have built thier houses from driftwood etc. if it helps i think it was in sight of a large power station.......any ideas where this could be?

Dungeness ..I think !
I am sure I saw that too..was it on the Coast programme ?
It's pretty bleak there and in sight of the power station.
This is Dungeness in Kent. The few houses on the shingle are not from driftwood but proper wood as I recall. I think the film director Derek Jarman had his wooden 'house' here which can still be seen as he left it I believe, on his death.

It is an eerie and atmospheric area.

many thanks folks! it's a place i would love to visit and now that i know where it is and have an aunty who lives in kent.........i think i jolly well will!
mmm, living in kent i would avoid it,

the do a nice three headed cod in the fish and chip shop next to the nuclear power station
