I have seen Blakes Hotel promoted in Brides Magazine as a first night venue. 33 Roland Gardens, London SW7. tel. 7 370 6701. www.blakeshotels.com. I will have a look in my collection of Brides Magazines for you (yes I have a collection of Brides Magazines going back 11 or 12 years) and if I find any more I'll post a msg. Does it have to be central London? The Grove in Rickmansworth is being heavily marketed at the moment. It is easily reached from the M25 I believe. It might be good for someone living in North London. www.thegrove.co.uk. My favourite is Pennyhill Park in Bagshot, off the M3, very easy if you are based in West London. I think the website is www.exclusivehotels.co.uk. The last two are more romantic than modern, whereas Blakes I think is trendy.

Wow thanks so much. I particularly like the look of the grove! I also came across the Portobello last night and that looks rather nice too. We did like Syndey House Chelsea (the roof terrace room) but they are fully booked. I'm actually in essex but seeing we won't get a honeymoon thought london would probably have the best choice. on our actual wedding night we are staying in the hotel our reception is, it's nothing special though.
If you are on a budget there is a really nice hotel near to kensington called the K-West hotel. Its not too pricey due to its location not being extremely central but you get alot more for your money. If you are looking for really central my favourites are Browns Hotel, The Langham Hilton, the Royal Horseguards and the millenium mayfair. Just outside of london set in the country side there is a really nice hotel called Danesfield House Hotel. Or there is the hilton docklands which is set on the river thames which have amazing suites overlooking the river and all of london but again would have to cross the river to get into the city. Hope you have a nice time where ever you end up.
If you are on a budget and would like to be very central you could try The Edward Lear Hotel, 30 Seymour St, Marble Arch. Comfortable, quiet and discreet. (former home of Edward Lear) http://www.edlear.com/
I could not find anything else useful in my back issues of Brides, there was one I think called the Kensington Hotel but nothing special. A tip though: if you go into one of the larger bookshops, see if you can find a display copy of a book called "Mr & Mrs Smith". It is priced at 19.95 but if you find a display copy you can consult it for free (naughty suggestion). The whole book is a directory of sexy/romantic etc. hotels in the country, obviously with a section on London. The title, Mr & Mrs Smith, hints at a naughty week end (you know, two people who are not really married and do not wish to attract attention might check in as Mr & Mrs Smith). I went into Books Etc. at Canary Wharf today and they did have a display copy there. If you are in Essex, have you thought of going to Suffolk? It is not far and I believe a very beautiful area.
