I'm not sure about "10", but is this what you mean?

"One for sorrow, two for joy, three for a girl, four for a boy, five for silver, six for gold and seven for a secret never to be told."

I'm not sure whether 8,9, & 10 belong to the original poem but to continue from QM, (if I may be so bold!!)... Eight's a wish, Nine's a kiss, Ten is a bird you must not miss.
To be honest, Noddy, I've never heard the thing go beyond seven. I'm sure eight, nine and ten are just modern additions designed to confuse oldsters like me! Cheers
same as the person afore me, what l want to know is the ryhme up to 20 magpie.
i remeber the tv program MAGPIE and the song used the words above upto 10 and that was in the 70's so it ain't that modern.
The way I learn't it was....1 for sorrow 2 for joy 3 for a girl 4 for a boy 5 for silver 6 for gold 7 for a secret never to be told 8 a wish 9 a kiss 10 is a bird you must not miss...I saw 12 on my daughters roof does any one know what that means plz.....Thanks Jan
