Think of the worse possible situation you could experience, then measure it up to an occasion when shyness is overcoming you. It may help lessen your nerves. Then take a deep breath and jump in. After all, no-one ever ruined their life by being confident now and again. But wishing you had been more confident AFTER your big chance has gone - now that can bother you for the rest of your life! Good luck!
I think one of the biggest causes of shyness is a fear of what other people think of you. Once you identify this and coach yourself to remember that what people think has nothing to do with you - it's purely their problem - you can get on with the things that you want to do and things that will make you happy.

The strangest thing is that majority of people are too hung up about themselves and don't really care about others around them. The rest who don't have anything better to do than to judge... well, that really is their problem isn't it? Don't worry and enjoy living your life for your own gratification!

My ex-wife was incredibly shy so she kept doing things. Also female chatter non-stop so the other person wouldn't twig that she was shy.Mind you she was also very good at her job which intimidated people who didn't know her and some that did(me).
i am not shy in the slightest. mainly because i genuinly don't care what people think of me and because i think life is far too short not to experience as much stuff as possible. plus if i do feel a bit nervous i get a total adrenalin rush from forcing myself to do whatever it is that is making me nervous! my motto is that it's much better to regret something (or someone *fnar fnar*) you've done rather than regret not doing something. and beenee is right no one else is analising your behaviour in a sitution anywhere near as much as you are - they're all too preocupied worrying about themselves. sorry if this makes no sense - it's almost 4am and my cntacts have dried up and i'm too tired to spell correctly! hope this helps though. xxxx
