Why is it that when Americans wear baseball caps, they seem to look good in them? All classes of their society, whether they are young or old. Although in the USA it would appear to be mainly a male dominated item.

Yet in this country it is mostly a certain class of person that wears them ie the boy racer, the yobbo on the street, and the female chav. Keep them for the golf course and other sporting events, but please not in the shops and on the streets

So ....a dear friend of mine who is 65 ...and a very intelligent chap and who wears a baseball cap to keep his head warm in the winter should not wear one because it offends you .
I suppose you would hustle him into Burtons to buy a trilby because that may seem more befitting for a man of his age.
Please don't tar everyone with the same brush .
If the cap fits, wear it.
Quite ...Foolscap ....would be appropriate here.. ..never seen such a ridiculous question ........
"not in the shops and on the streets"....
"certain class of person " .....what next ......am I that person because I wear a coat with a hood up when it's cold because of my bad neck ....or a cap when I am gardening .My little grands all wear baseball caps and they are nice kids .
You ought to wind your neck in ...ignorant old git .
This sort of thing pees me off.

shaneystar2 , Why do you have to be so obnoxious, perhaps you belong to that very class of people I refer to.

First let me answer your first rather silly point, regarding your 65 year very intelligent, dear friend. Did I say it offends me for him to wear a baseball cap? But I may question his dress sense, a simple flat cap would be more befitting a chap of his age. And what has intelligence got to do with it?except a very poor attempt to try and defend your argument, it's all a matter of taste.

Did I mention that anyone who wears a coat with a hood to protect a bad neck, or wears a cap in the garden is that sort of person? The defence of your argument, gets even more silly when you have to drag your grand-children into it, and I am sure they are nice kids, but it is a pity that have a grandparent that rudely addresses people as you do.

Perhaps I have hooked the very class of person I was referring to. It's all down to class and upbringing. May I quote the following description from Wikipedia the on-line encyclopedia? Pay particular attention to the last couple of lines appertaining to Baseball caps, I rest my case.

The term chav refers to a subcultural stereotype fixated on fashions such as gold jewellery and designer clothing in the Burberry pattern (most famously a now-discontinued baseball cap) and from a variety of other casual and sportswear brands. Tracksuits, hoodies, jogging bottoms (known as sweatpants to some) and baseball caps are particularly associated with this stereotype.
Where can I buy the ones with the peak at the side?
Obnoxious. ..Moi ? Pot and kettle ?
At least I didn't call you a holier than thou sanctimonious twit which is how you address people who disagree with you.

I do not belong to any certain class of people ....and your toffee nosed attitude towards they way people dress shines out like a beacon.

It's all down to class and upbringing you see.. ..do excuse while I adjust my tiara before I go off for a round of golf ...oh and by the way my grands are my great nephews .
Question Author
Then as well as needing a little lesson in dress sense, perhaps a lesson in the written word is also in order. If you meant Great Nephews, why address them as Grands?

Don't know about ones with a peak at the side heathfield, would one with the peak at the back be ok?
Because they are my grand nephews
Dictionary definition for you

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/grandne phew

And that is how I care to address them.... OK.

What I care to dress in is my choice ..I don't need any lessons .....you need a lesson in tolerance.

You're not "Disgusted of Tonbridge Wells " by any chance ....are you ?

Why did you bother to take the trouble to post the link? I know the deffinition of Grandnephew. I was just confused with your terminology. You who calls them Greatnephews but then chooses to call them Grands. If you must use the word Greatnephews, why not call them Greats?

Do even them know what the hell you are on about?

Oh for goodness sake ......go away .It's the same difference.
If you are not moaning about something you are not happy .
You have the most apt username I have ever seen .

Would you like a defintion of pedantic ..
Question Author
No but I would look forward to the definition of 'The same difference' is this slang?
In which case I do not possess a Slang Dictionary, since I would have little use for it, I'm afraid.
Oh get you .....you always resort to this sort of thing ..I have seen you talk out of the back of your neck before and when you can't get the upper hand you play the old class system. .Anyone who dares to disagree with you ,makes the odd spelling mistake ,hasn't quite sussed out the star system ......all grist for your mill.
What you are basically saying in your statement is that anyone who wears a baseball cap is a " certain class of person " automatically a chav or a yob.You are stereotyping people in a thinly disguised rant .
Millions of people all over the world over wear these practical items of headwear..All shapes, sizes, nationalities and ages .....your argument holds no water whatsoever ..You have a huge bee in your bonnet ....get over it .Get a larger hat .
I am glad that some people wear baseball-caps.
How else would I know to avoid such folks ?
usa be kickin yo ass.
