I'm sorry - I read your question wrong. I thought you meant did he host it :o(
Sorry
'Legless War Ace' ? He couldn't have been that 'legless' to have invented such a brilliant 'dam buster' for us. You obvoiusly meant amputee!
they may mean a,putee but he didnt invent anything- that was barnes wallis, who had all major limbs. Dear dougie was a pilot pure and simple, who found a means to compensate for making total pillock of himself crashing a fairey gamecock while joyriding.

I guess in these politically correct days I should have said 'bi-lateral amputee" but he was always referred to as a 'legless ace". But he referred to himself as 'the legless ass".
I remember seeing old tin legs on Blue Peter. Can't remember the year but I recall him speaking with Simon Groom if that is any help.
So there's this guy who was a flyer during WW2 who was on Blue Peter drunk then? What was wrong with him....wasn't the presenters drugs good enough for him?
As Simon Groom once said, "What a lovely pair of knockers"
Oops, silly me! Last night Hubby informed me that I confused Douglas Bader with Barnes Wallis, so I stand corrected! Well, I was nearly right :-)........
I wouldn't be surprised if he did as he was President of 'Riding for the disabled'. He was also one of the rudest men I ever met.
