Hi all,
I'm stumped as to what to get my Dad for his 60th b'day - for a guy who has everything! I really need some help with some ideas, I would be grateful if anyone has any good suggestions?
Thanks, Rebecca

For my 50th, the kids went to the effort to go through my pilot logbooks (I've been an airline pilot most of my adult life) and used the services of friends in the FAA to obtain serial numbers and histories of the first aircraft of each type I ever flew. Especially the old Luscombe 8A in which I learned to fly. This was put on a very nice scroll and is still one of my most favorite gifts. Point is, what has your Dad spent his life doing? To most men, next to their families and children, their lifes vocation holds special meaning, and at this milemarker a re-cap of important events could hold special meaning...
For my fathers 70th we paid for tickets to take him to a performance at the Royal opera house

Got a budget in mind?

Problem is that my parents live in Guernsey, so I cannot book things like theatre, dinner or opera unfortunately. Plus, they're not there over his birthday as they are going on a cruise for several weeks to celebrate. Budget I was thinking of was around 80. But I like Clanads idea of something put together. Suppose I should get my thinking cap on then!
Thanks for your ideas, Rebecca
What about getting something for him that charity projects would benefit from eg, safe drinking water for people in poverished countries, or a goat for a family? You could try:

http://www.oxfamunwrapped.com/Default.aspx

or,

http://gifts4life.org/

which are 2 charities i like to support :) Particularly ideal for those people who have everthing and nothing can buy the feeling of knowing communities can benefit from one gift!xxx

How about a 60-yr old bottle of something...??? Although not being a wine/whiskey/brandy buff, I suspect this may take you somewhat over-budget
As he would have been 21 in the sixties, why not get him an album of what ever his favourite band would have been?

when my aunt was 80, i gave her 80 presents.

all were small things and a variety of prices, but nothing extortionate.

the presents included, scouring brushes, packets of seeds, candles, bars of soap, crossword books, sewing threads,.
and all things that i know she would find useful around the house and garden.

it took me a year to organise it and then what seemed like forever to wrap them all. but it was a brilliant time opening them all.
