A Scottish name, spelt Auchinleck there but pronounced Affleck (presumably when one of them emigrated to the USA and told the immigration people his name, they just took it down as it sounded). It's the name of a barony around Dundee.

meant to add... from Gaelic words meaning hill (ach) and flat stone (leac), the sort of place where druids probably held ceremonies.
