Ha Ha - I was asking for that
The stupidist thing I've ever been told is that big boys don't cry.
If you wear boxer shorts then it'll end up hanging around you knees! (I bought some the same day)
A million stupid things from the book of what every parnet says to a child. Great classics are 'if you keep pulling that face, it'll stay that way if the wind changes' (like anyone had a flipping clue when the wind would change) and 'if so-and-so jumped off a cliff would you do that as well?' (well, no but, jumping off a cliff and rolling down a hill for instance getting covered in cr*p is a bit different.) Does anyone else agree with me here?

Lennon my mate did that - at school we were rolling down this bank and my mate rolled in to dog muck - so we laughed and a year later he did it again - we laughed again. so 5 yeas later we still waiting for the 3rd time! It must be soon now.
Bet your mate smells nice Mintox - he must attract it or something! :) We did something similar (although luckily not involving dog muck) when we went on a school trip to Devon. Or parents had paid quite a bit of money to for us to go on activities etc, but when we got to the hotel there was a massive hill there, so we spent the whole time sliding down this hill. Once we'd gone home, all we had to show was a lot of grass stains, and nobody had a pair of shorts or trousers with the bum still intact.
If you pick a guinea pig up by it's tail, it's eyes will drop out!
By the way, they're not pigs but rodents, they don't cost a guinea nor do they come from Guinea but from Peru. And are guinea pigs worse off than scapegoats?
The usual parent ones - "A swan will break your arm with its wings" and "if you try to swallow chewing gum it'll stick in your throat and you'll die". Similar one for fish bones which meant I never knew what hot fish tasted like until I was twenty as I spent so long removing the bones. At school once there was a debate among the intellectually challenged in our class about whether the Express Lifts tower in Northampton (about 150' high) could be seen from Russia! One bright spark said that it definitely couldn't "cos of all the 'ills an mountains in the way"!

Xyzzyplugh - that's a new one on me about eh eyes falling out - Along the same lines I heard if you sneeze with your eyes open you're eyes pop out. Oh many hours were spent at school trying to achieve this. RCP - Have you ever met anyone that got their arm broken by a swan?? I haven't either. Plus that debate sounds funny - got a transcript??
Mintox "If you pick a guinea pig up by it's tail, it's eyes will drop out!" was a very popular thing that parents, aunties and uncles said for fun to children in the fifties. The astounded child supposed to eventually figure out that they (guinea pigs) haven't got tails so it wouldn't happen. I guess the same could be said of Manx cats. Anyway preposterous and stupid but so graphic I remember to this day an image of me in a pet shop - trying it! ;-] Star?
Question Author
xyzzyplugh you asked for a star - you got a star - maybe you should have asked for 3??? :P
I grateful for whatever titbits are thrown my way Mintox; A feast already. :-]
"If you swallow chewing gum, it'll stick in your throat and you'll die" is not a stupid thing to say. T.J.Pitt, MEP for West Midlands, choked to death on a piece of chewing gum in 1986.
