Last week I met Linda Robson, and she's lovely. Very, very genuine.

I haven't met anyone who wasn't nice, but hubby's met a few miseries in his job. Daniel O'Donnell, apparently, doesn't have time for anyone.

Holidaying in Scarborough (cricket festival) with my parents, we were staying in a hotel where some of the cricketers were also. Got in the lift with Graham Gooch, and a couple of others and Graham said "Hi, howya doing?" to me - felt chuffed as meatballs!!

Same hotel - different day (usually when you meet fellow resident in the hallway etc - you nod gd mrn/gd afternoon) but on encountering Michael Parkinson [journalism for cricket at the time] the miserable git did not acknowledge my polite "hello".

Have met Bernard Manning (I know, I know) & although he swears, he was a really lovely warm & friendly person!

Also met Tommy Cooper who was a miserable looking git - sorry Tommy!

Snap with the 'miserable git' noodles!

Oh no,Tommy was miserable? I used to think of him as someone i'd have liked for a grandad (before he died obviously!)- and he was miserable?

Gutted!

Met Alan Shearer,a Smug,Arrogant self-centered person you are ever likely to meet.(Except if TV Cameras are present)!!!!

I've been grumbling about this for a while. I was selling entrance to Parade Gardens in Bath a few years back, and at the end of a quiet day I was sat on a wall reading a book, "hullo"-ing at people as they walked by, and selling the occasional ticket.

Then Michael Palin walked past.

"Ooh," I thought, "Michael Palin. You don't see him every day."

So I nod a 'hello' to him as he walks by, and not only does he not nod, or "hullo" or anything, he shoots me the grumpiest look I've ever seen, and walks on scowling.

He really put a foul spin on my evening. It was a half-hour before closing, and one of the friendliest-seeming people on telly was rude to me.

Hi BOO - sorry to mar your illusion of Tommy. We met him in a pub in London - p'raps he was just having an off day - we all get 'em!

My husband liked him on-stage too, but he was never really my cup 'o' tea!

Years ago ....in my misspent youth ..I used to work at the Wellington Pier in Great Yarmouth in the theatre bar. I have met many stars ..or this is what they seem to think they are! You may have heard of some of them ...showing my age here !
Lonnie Donegan ..arrogant
Frank Ifield ..Ditto
Dora Bryan ..Ditto
Tommy Steele ..lovely genuine person
Rolf Harris ....really nice
Mike Reid ..smashing...always bought us girls a drink and told risque jokes ! Proper jack the lad !
Danny la Rue ....lovely man.
Morecambe and Wise ..Eric ..lovely ..Ernie ...no thanks.
Cliff Richard ..creepy.
I could go on as I worked there for seven years in the summer seasons and met lots of these sort of people. ..many of whom are now long gone....but they are just people at the end of the day.. ..and have their off days the same as anyone else.If they were pleasant to me I was pleasant to them otherwise I hoped their gin and tonic choked them !!
The best were all the old sixties groups ..Hollies ,Searchers ,Billy J Kramer etc. All nice lads ..far from home on tour who just liked to drink and chat after the show.
Hi Shaneystar...loved your answer.!!..I remember all those names from my 60s childhood...A bit surprised about Cliff..but..was never keen on Ernie myself!
Joan Collins, Lenny Henry and Dawn French were all very 'showbiz' and thought themselves above everyone; not very nice at all. The Chuckle Brothers, on the other hand, were very nice!

Interesting replies - thanks folks Doll xx
I do think we have to give these celebs some credit though, could you be in a happy and cheerful mood ALL the time, wherever you went. I don't think you can judge on one very brief meeting. Lets face it, we're not happy all the time and sometimes they must just want to go about their bussiness without the intrusion. Personally, i'd hate it. Also, to us its a novelty meeting them but to them they must just want to get on and do what they're doing. I know they get paid loads for anyone with that argument but they are still entitled to some privacy and the odd grumpy mood, as are the rest of us. Sorry!!!!

When i was a dental nurse we treated Sir Harry Seacombe and his wife - two of the loveliest people ever. The last time he came in, he sang to me (even though he was extremely pooly at the time) - totally made my day! Was very sad when he died.

I also met Davina McCall in my local shopping centre, she too was really lovely and down to earth - exactly the same off camera as she is on camera!!

You're absolutely right Julie!

My brother is an entertainer & has been practically all over the world, meeting up with many 'celebrities'. He's brilliant on stage (well we think so), but once off it, likes to relax, be himself & enjoy his private life with his family & friends.

The same must apply to most people in the limelight.

Rolf Harris. I met Rolf when I was fourteen, when I went to his house by the Thames to help my dad, who had got Rolf to endorse a hat he was promoting at the time.

Rolf had a lot of cats, and showed us round his studio and garden, made us tea and drew me a Rolfaroo.

All the time he was joking and singing, and was completely brilliant!

Not so nice famous people? Well I have bumped into a few, and at worst they were just minding their own business.

Cheryl Baker - is a grumpy old cow, met and talked with her on a number of occasions and she was always like that, so unless she always has an off day no excuses.

Kate Bush - Nice enough but had ideas above her station :) she used to insist on coming round the back of the shop to collect her shopping because she would be "mobbed", despite the fact she hadn't had a record out in 15 years.

Rolf Harris a a delightful man as some of you have mentioned. My son met John Peel on several occasions and says he lived up to his reputation of being everybody's lovely kind uncle. Joe Brown swore at a group of us in the 60's just for shouting out 'We want Joe' outside a theatre and he actually was extremely rude. Perhaps he was having an off day!

I said hello to the actress Lisa Goddard outside our local shop, purely because I thought I knew her (obviously had recognised her face from television). She totally snubbed me!!

Doesn't surprise me about Cliff, Shaney. I have always found him weird and creepy anyway.

Met Audrey Roberts out of Coronation Street in High Street Store - She was really friendly.
Douglas Bader was the most obnoxious person I have ever met and Britt Ekland the most delightful. Lots of others but those two stand out.
