Who is Joey Buttafucco? What did he used to be, and did he do something wrong? Slightly more specific question (for all you friends nuts out there), why would he have hurt Joey and Chandler?

He was a married car mechanic who had an affair with a young teenage girl he met when she smashed up her car. She then went on to shot his wife in the face and nearly killed her. When arrested she claimed they were in love and she was doing this on his instructions so they could live together. He claimed she was an obsessed teenage who had been stalking him. She had a very public trial where she was given life in prison and he got away scot free. He then became a minor celebrity due to all the publicity the trial had received. He became a bit of a joke popping up on all the ususal tv talk shows and was generally seen as a bit of a sad joke and an unpleasant character. There was even a film made about this whole sorry business.
Ever heard of Amy Fisher (AKA The Long Island Lolita) ? She was a sixteen year old girl in America in the early 90's. She started an affair with her fathers car mechanic (Joey Buttafucco). Amy became obsessed with Joey, who was married with kids. When he refused to leave his wife for her she turned up on the doorstep of the Buttafucco household and shot his wife. I have no idea why this would hurt Joey and Chandler from Friends though.
As an aside, that's definitely one of my top ten most unfortunate surnames.
I suspect this sort of thing goes on all the time in America and the only reason Joey Buttafucco became more famous than other cases is because he has a mildly amusing name.
