Am I the only one who gets annoyed by the J Oliver/Sainsburys, 'Try something new' ad campaign. The latest amazing 'new' idea is letting your roast joint rest for 20 mins before carving to make it jucier. Sorry, but thats standard practice with all roast meats. The best one ever was combining sausages and apple. Oh my God!!! Who'd have ever thought of that. Pork and apple!!! AAHHH

I can take him or leave him, but my husband feels the same way as you do sithlord.

Wonder how long it will be before he runs out of ideas?!

I think these type of ads are addressed at people who are not as confident at cooking or experimenting as you might be. It is not 'try something new' like a combination, but more like try something other than pre-packaged meal. It shows how simple these recipes are and explains the basics.

My Dad is a retired chef and these ads, along with Anthony Warral Thompsons Saturday Kitchen programme get him so mad. He frequently screams out about why they seem incapable of using simple ingredients to make a nice meal and that they also feel the need to add garlic to everything!

Smudge, probley never. I can see it now, ''Next time you're having battered fish, try serving it with deep fried potatos, seasoned with salt and vineger. I like to call it fish and chips, pukka!!!

LOL sithlord!

Every day there's someone who is cooking for the first time - I'd been cooking for years before I knew you were supposed to leave the joint for that long before carving it. Never had any complaints tho' :-)

He is really beginning to irritate. Didn't he slit an animal's throat in one of his programmes? Something like that anyway. That lisp annoys me as well although I usually find lisps cute, not on him. Sorry to other ABers but he's earnt his millions now, bye Jamie.

I must say, I quite like him. He's down to earth, and some of his 'new' ideas are interesting to those of us who are not great in the kitchen. For example, leaving beef for twenty minutes is new to me!

To be honest, I think that that most people who claim to hate Jamie Oliver are just jealous!

Who mentioned the word hate? There's quite a difference between 'hating' someone & finding them somewhat 'irritating' luckystrike!

As I said, I can take him or leave him!

I can't stand the bloke. Simple as that.

Pork Roast and apples is wonderful as long as it is done right... and it has been done for years in many cultures.. the apples get made into a type of apple sauce and used as a glaze... mmm wonderful!!!!

And letting the meat set will make it better to carve amung other things... I find nothing wrong with Jamies cooking.. He is bringing cooking that has been going on for years and years from other parts of the world to the UK... Remember the Uk is has a rep for blan food..

He with other chef's are getting rid of the (blan) rep..

Exactly Jennykins, pork and apples is great, and yes, letting the meat set will make it better to carve. The thing is EVERYBODY knows that!! Read the question, thats my point!!!

ps I like a drink late at night as well.
