Unimportant, but just wondering:

Is he gay (the actor, not the character) ?

he isn't gay one bit, he came as a special guest star on scrubs and it shows his real personality he seemed pretty manly to me i think he has a girlfriend in real life.

"Seemed pretty manly"???? So all gay mens are camp old queens are they? Just what decade are you living in?

I've checked a few fan sites, and non mention a 'significant other', which doesn't necessarily mean anything ... ah ... significant, but they usually mention a wife or girlfriend, and often omit a boyfriend or partner.

Certainly the fact that away from TV Sean is not the raving queen he portrays neither confirms or denies his sexuality - it just makes him a good actor!

Well, Quizmonkey, to be fair, dodamaksoud did pick up on what I was asking, which was "Is Sean Hayes that camp in real life?"

Of course not all gay men are highly camp but in the context of the question it seems a fair answer.

If Sean Hayes isn't camp for real then it might be less likely that he's gay for real. That isn't a pejorative thing to say - I know quite a few gay men and none of them suffer from a complete lack of campness at some point or other. That's not to say they're screaming queens, not at all.

Will....are you a raving iron ?
Question Author
What's a raving iron? Never heard that expression before.
Question Author

Just googled it. Should have done that first, I suppose. For anyone else who doesn't know, it's cockney rhyming slang. Iron hoof, .... (fill in the blank)

No, user66, I'm not. And why would I be 'raving' even if I was? This is 2006, not 1956.

But, to be fair Will, your question never mentioned campness, it just asked whether the actor is gay. I applaud your leaping to the defence of your first answerer, however dodgy his generalisations and naivete may be.
Question Author

Fair enough, Quizmonkey.

I should have said camp - I just assumed any conversation about Jack in Will & Grace would imply campness.

Cheers.

I went to high school with Sean Hayes and can definitely tell you that he is gay. He acted exactly like he does on Will & Grace. If he was 'manly' on Scrubs, that was purely acting. I should know, I'm gay too!
