I got up this morning at 6 ish, made tea and took it in to Mic. The mess was terrible and it was everywhere, his face and hands and any where else you can think of. I got dressed and with gagging I did my best to clean up the mess. All Mic could say was "it wasn't me". He has carried this on through out the day saying please believe me. So I told him I believed him, this did calm him down. He was also very hot. I considered calling the Doc but on a weekend you get someone who doesn't speak English with an interpretor in tow so didn't bother. Since then I have given him 2 paracetamol every 4 hours and his temperature has lowered. I will call the surgery in the morning but what's bothering me is why this has happened. Mic has had a stroke, am I now looking at dementia. Why would anyone spread their, ....... every where?

Oh sweetheart, I do feel for you - it could be that the damage is greater than first thought or has worsened or he may have had more mini strokess not as evident in his current condition.

You have done everything right and I do realise how hard this is for you. Try to get regular GP tomorrow and ask questions.
Are you serious that you get sent a doctor that doesn't speak English?

Jeza, sorry but I'm not qualified to answer your question, just want to say what a great job I think you're doing, thoughts are with you and Mic, good luck.
Jeza, think your presumption of dementia may be correct, But some infections can also cause behaviour that is out of the ordinary.Have seen many people with say urine infections behaving in a way that is bizarre to say the least. Get your Gp to check things out for you.Best wishes to you Brenda.

Yes umm with an interpretor who is also foreign, usually Asian which is why I didn't ring. This is usual at the weekend round here.
They dont know theyre spreading it. They feel wet or itchy, scratch & spread it. Poor Mic is distressed at his loss of control and you having to clear up. Keep strong for him Jeza and remember the good times you shared.
Blimey...I've never encountered that.

brenda is correct, urine infections can cause bizarre behaviour.
A very under active thyroid can also cause symptoms similar to Alzheimer's.

I find it odd too. Where we live is predominately a white area.

To everyone else, thanks. I know infections can make you a bit loopy but today I hope never happens again. I don't think my tum will take it.
Was he any different in himself?
Well the link with an infection and the high temp makes sense, so hopefully not a recurring thing.

Sher, that has given me food for thought. Yes he was different in the fact that he said his mother was coming to see him later. His Mum died years ago.
I so feel for you both, Jeza you are amazingly strong and it is obvious you love Mic very much, it must be so distressing for you to see him like that. God bless and love to you both x
He sounds a little feverish, what with being hot and a bit out of sorts all confused. Keep him cool until GP visit and a couple more paracetamol. Thinking of you and wish you a peaceful nigt.
OH had urinary infection that had him slip in & out of a coma, ergo incontinence. Antibiotics helped.
could he be dehydrated ?
My cousin (a nun) came to visit me last August again long story (she was left in my house in a wheelchair distressed, confused and completely out of it) the relatives picked her up in a cuppla hours and a few days later was airplaned out to her home (convent) England - I put it down to dementia as she is 82 - but she rang me last week from the convent (nursing home) and I couldn't believe how compos mentis she was and begged me for me to send her a letter. I now believe she was dehydrated and malnourished (her choice) and the nursing home has put her on her feet. There are number of reasons why Mic has reacted this way. But should anything happen you certainly should have no regrets. JJCon

Anne, not likely. 2 cups of tea about 2 pints of milk and 2 of those high cal drinks. Plus the fluid he gets with the wet food he eats.
If you are talking about Poo (which is what I assume) trying to hide the fact that they have 'messed' themselves by 'hiding it' is common with elderly people with altzimers or dementia. Both I and my wife have worked in care homes and had to deal with it. They normally refuse to accept/ believe that it was them as well.
Sorry, but it looks like you are going to have to start putting him in incontinence pants.
Sorry again but if this gets worse you may have to start thinking about moving him to a care home.

I totally agree with the post of Eddie ^^^^^
