New York. Despite the city's reputation for violent crime, I found ordinary New Yorkers friendly and sincere.

Anywhere.  If you go in with a friendly attitude you will find that people respond in a similar manner.
Liverpool
if your brother had visited the gurnos estate in merthyr tydfil i wonder if he would still think the people the friendliest

I've always thought the people of Norwich are a pretty friendly bunch.

We have visited many places where the people have been friendly. But I have to say, on our visits to America, Greece & Cyprus, the people have all been very friendly & welcoming.

I'm with paul4469 - definitely Liverpool, the whole city's got a really lovely welcoming vibe.

Hey Littleoleme, I am liking your taste. (I'm a Norwich girl).

The friendliest place I've been was a small town in Italy. No one could speak any English but everyone in the village had to show me I was welcome, so they shook my hand or kissed me. I felt so welcome.

Saying that though, I've never visited anywhere, here or abroad, where people weren't friendly.

Most people are friendly, as someone said if you treat them with a friendly attitude yourself. But I noticed that the people in Hong Kong were generally very unfriendly.

I recently had a fantastic time in Thailand, where the people were truely lovely - kind, polite, sincere and throughly welcoming.

In the UK, I've found that the majority of people are very nice when greated with a warm smile, particularly in Northern Ireland.

Dublin!
Newcastle
Whenever we go to Bournemouth we have found people very friendly and helpful

Def. Liverpool...

people speak to you and drivers let you out of side roads!

anywhere in the North East, usually the older people though. Being friendly is a dying trade.

I grew up in the snottiest part of Hampshire so pretty much anywhere other than there is friendly to me!

Agree with Liverpool. Went on stag weekend there last year and it was great. I'd been on a stag do in Prague the previous month and everyone had told me about the stunning Czech girls;whilst that was true they come in second to the girls in Liverpool. X

Alice Springs - Australia. An unusual place full of abos wandering around looking totally bewildered and disenfranchised. Everyone I spoke to was very friendly. Australia lived up to the friendly image I'd been told about but Alice was more so. I found myself being more friendly and in fact that has stayed with me months after I got back and noticed how well my newfound friendliness (!) brings out the best in others.
