Is Huntingdonshire an official county or is it just a district? I can't seem to find out anywhere.

it's listed here.. www.abcounties.co.uk
Huntingdonshire used to be a county until the local government re-shuffles of 1974, when it was swallowed up by Cambridgeshire.

Confusingly, the name Huntingdonshire survives today as the name of the district council.

There does seem to be a lot of confusion over, counties, boroughs, districts, etc etc. Are there any maps out there that list all of the county borders whilst also listing the differences between all the terms. Surely there should be one on a government map somewhere?
I'll say there's confusion.  I think this constant tinkering with boundaries is a plot on the part of Governments, national and local, to get ever more tiers of bureaucrats into place.  One of my hobby horses is that we always get an extra some-thing-or-other, rather than a straightforward replacement.  I read the other day about the north-west regional something, whereas I thought the referendum held in the north-east of England had resulted in a 'no' to regional government.  Looks like they have got something of the sort anyway.  Does anyone ever ask who pays for all this?  Each tier of officials (perhaps the same ones who are on two or three) has its own seat of government, meetings and so on. Things used to be simple but that wouldn't do!  I should think a map showing all the divisions would be so criss-crossed with boundaries it would be illegible. Keying in 'uk maps showing counties' on Ask Jeeves yields maps of the old counties and might give a lead to more up to date maps showing superimposed boundaries dreamt up in more recent years.  It will be more confusing still if and when we are a region of the European Federation.
Seen a sign for it somewhere on my way to St. Neots via the back roads around Hail Weston/Kimbolton. Don't use Huntingdonshire in my address though, only Cambridgeshire.
