Was it right to name Dave Lee Travis, in the Jimmy Saville paedophile investigation?

After all there seems little proof that he was guilty of nothing more than an alleged offence of a sexual nature against two grown women, and for the very offence of being arrested without charge, he has already been dropped from his Magic AM show.

He wasn't named in the *JS paedophile investigation*.
This investigation has a much broader remit.......it now encompasses allegations of sexual impropriety across and throughout the BBC.
Blimey jth that will open a can of worms.
There is a bit of a climate of a media feeding frenzy on old celebs. The Lee Travis allegations are of an entirely different nature and seriousness than the Saville ones.

It is right yhat it has been reported by the media, to with hold it fact would be wrong, but the nature of the reporting and linking it to Savill is unfair and incorrect.
Think its all getting totally out of hand now.
I don't know. Isn't it good to hear of at least one celebrity from those days who wasn't interested in abusing youngsters?
DLT may turn to have been a bit of a sh!t but at least he wasn't a paedophile.
Should celebrities have their names hidden from the press when arrested?

Why should they be treated differently from Joe Public?

By the way, JTH is correct...the charges against him are nothing to do with the Saville investigation.

hmmm.....
'Last month Travis vigorously denied allegations that he groped two women while in BBC studios. One alleged that he had put his hand up her skirt, while the other said he had "jiggled" her breasts.'
......yes.

You are quite right, they shouldn't.

But that is not what I actually said in my headline, WAS IT RIGHT TO NAME THIS CELEBRITY?

Had it had been 'Joe Public' then in the same circumstances, I would have put similar.

With such life destroying alleged connections to such vile crimes such as these, everyone deserves to remain anonymous until charged with a particular offence.

That does not explain why he was interviewed by the Operation Yewtree team, set up to investigate child abuse allegations.

Either the Yewtree team have fresh allegations of underage activity or they were operating outside of their remit. If it was he later, then the 'hairy cornflake' has cause to feel aggrieved.
// everyone deserves to remain anonymous until charged with a particular offence. //

I can agree with that.
Hes accused of "groping" two women

Good luck proving that one
// everyone deserves to remain anonymous until charged with a particular offence. //

Of course, that would mean that none of us would ever have heard of Mr Abu Qatada, who has never been charged with anything.
Is he considered to be a danger to the public? If not why was it necessary to send a team of police officers in a convoy of marked and unmarked cars to his home yesterday. Surely one officer could have arrested him?
How long will it be before a woman is accused of an offence of a sexual nature, too many women when I was working thought it was fine to pinch-a-bum but would scream blue murder if a man said they were looking very good.
I totally agree with sidkid. Completely unnecessary to send the "gang". One police officer would have done.
Will the last BBC employee without a stain on his character please stand up.
Sidkid, he's a fit 68 year old. He might have resisted arrest.
Don't be daft sandy. He's not some yobbo, high on drink or drugs.
