I am going Majorca this year and usually when you clear the airport and switch on your mobile you get massages from many service providers. Will this be the case in Majorca and if so which offers the cheapest deal.

sorry I meant messages not massages!

dont know who the best deal is with but i think the the cost is set by your uk provider.

a tip i would give is the change your network setting to manual instead of automatic. otherwise you can get new messages ever hour as you phone keeps switching from one provider to another. do this once you get to your hotel. it will search for all the ones in the area and you just pick one.

Someone has removed my answer.  I live in Spain and when I go to England I don't do anything especial - just click on automatically to any passing provider e.g. BTcellnet, vodaphone whatever.  As long as your phone is dual band you'll be ok.  If you just leave it your calls Majorca to England will be classed as local calls, majorca to majorca will be classed as long distance because you will still be going through your English provider.  If you go onto Roaming then whoever you call will pay half the caost of the call.

If you are with Orange check before you go as the wife could not use her phone despite assurances from Orange that it was set up for abroad. My daughter and I are both with O2 and were connected automatically to Moviestar in Majorca although it did switch depending on which part of the island we were in. I've previously had no problems with T-Mobile either.

I would advise you check with your service provider. I have been on both O2 and Vodafone and travelled abroad with no problems. My fianc is on Orange though, and when he asked about his phone to be used in Europe, he was told he would have to leave a deposit with them for several months (!) - can't remember amount but we're talking hundreds...
