My wife takes thyroxine and last October due to problems had her bloods checked and her tsh level was 5.62. Her thyroxine level was raised but her problems have persisted and last week had her bloods tested again and her tsh level was 22.5. We have learned today that the brand she is taking, Teva, has been recalled as it is found to contain no thyroxine so in effect instead of taking 125mcg per day she has been taking 25mcg. Has anyone else had a problem with this brand and is there any come back we can take against this company for the suffering caused?

This is quite disgusting, but from what I gather only applies to the 100mcgm tablets and rather than containing NO thyroxine contain a smaller amount.

You need to see a solicitor and get an expert medical opinion to show that your wife suffered from this underdosage.
I take thyroxine, have done for 6 years and have no idea what a tsh level is. Should I be told by the doctor what it is??
TSH - Thyroid Stimulating Hormone. (:o)
Hi Fact ..
yes I'd heard of this. I was on 'Teva' .. now switched to 'actavis' Also mentioned are the 'Numark' brand. We just accept medication will be 'right' don't we! http://www.thyroidhel...uding-Numark-Liveries
Im on Actavis
I seem to get different each time I collect my prescription I have been given Forley and my last lot are Actavis
I found out recently that taking omeprazole has caused my tsh level to rise to 9.8 despite taking 150mcg per day.
cazz.....interesting, I cannot find any drug interaction between thyroxine and Omeprazole in the literature.

Your TSH certainly seems high, particularly as you are on 150 mcgms of thyroxine.

How does your Dr know that it is due to drug interaction?

Do you feel tired and lethargic and have put on weight?

I will be interacts to know what happens if your TSH is repeated.
Not interacted......" interested" sp.
my gp didnt know of any interactions either, I was referred to an endo who told me (matter of factly) that ppi's affect the absorbtion rate of thyroxine, due to a lack of stomach acid amongst other reasons. I have stopped taking omeprazole and have been instructed to take the thyroxine with 300ml of water an hour before food each morning.

I have been feeling much better, a lot of my underactive symptoms have significantly reduced.
absorption*
cazz......quite interesting.......didn't know that. thanks.

Thanks for all your answers. My wife was at the drs yesterday and he apologised for not replacing her tablets sooner(when he knew they were faulty). She now has Actavis and has to take a small dosage to get her levels back up as a large amount could make her just as poorly. She then has to get her bloods checked in a month.
Factfinder...thanks...that sounds reasonable.
