Bit of a parochial question here I am afraid. I drive through Shepton Mallet each day, on my way to work, and often see a van with the company name 'Albino Builders'. I am wondering how they got their name - certainly no albinos in the van.

Maybe they're all white van men.

Mis-spelled "Albion" perhaps!
You're not Dysloxic are you inferno?

They are indeed called Albino Builders - I've just looked them up on yell.com and google.
Possibly one reason is that it's a memorable name, and very easy to find their details (about 6 entries on google)
I will ask the boyfriend's Dad as we are stopping off at their house in Shepton Mallet on Sat, on the way to Cornwall.
Lovely part of the world, Somerset.

They might keep albino budgerigars.  They are a recognised Class of bird, I believe.  I know that because years ago I knew someone who bred them.  Obviously, all white with red eyes.

Mine of useless info. dept:  Some albino organisation in America is objecting to the depiction (negative) of albinos in the film of the Da Vinci Code book, so that bit might be changed.

Yes, they're traceable via Google. They are renowned for building the best albinos in the south-west.

To add to the useless info.....

The American organisation  NOAH (National Association of Albinism & Hyperpigmentation) is  objecting to The Da Vinci Code. Persons with albinism (as they prefer to be called, and NOT albinos) are nearly always portrayed negatively. Harry Hill has a crude sketch in his routine entitled "Albino Night". It's not funny and it's not nice. Albinism is a disability like many other conditions. I bet there would be outrage if a comedian had a sketch called "Down's Syndrome Night."

Here endeth the rant!  Sorry if I was getting carried away but it is a subject very close to my heart.

Could it be a surname???
Nice one SteveD ~ 3 stars well earned!
I see them regularly, too. Ithink it is the name of the original founders of the business, and probably Italian in origin (which would fit with the red white & green vans)

There were several prisoner of war camps in the area during WWII - many of the prisoners worked on local farms and a lot of them were Italian - wuite a few stayed on after the war ended and it may be that the Albino family weer amoung them....
