A good way in would be to look at training in event management as a whole. Most big hotels / conference centres / universities etc will have hospitality departments that arrange events. These range from corporate nights out, to conferences, to private parties including weddings.

You might want to look at college courses in leisure management or something similar.

Whilst I believe that there are wedding planning companies in the uk there aren't that many. Working in event organisation somewhere that puts on receptions / ceremonies will allow you to build up contacts and put together a portfolio of your work. You would then have lots of experience and skill to help you get a job with a wedding planner...

If there is a company in your area you could try and arrange work experience with them. Then you'd be able to see what the job really involves.

Also you are likely to need to travel about a fair bit so a clean full driving licence is going to be an essential.

Hope this helps.
