edinburgh airport, sorry
London City would probably be the nearest. Depends where you're travelling from.

There is a Travelodge near Islington.
There are flights from Edinburgh to London City.
If you land at Heathrow take the train to Paddington and then the tube, Bakerloo line, to Angel Islington.
I thought Heathrow only did long haul flights. have you considered Luton?
I`d fly to Heathrow and get the Piccadilly line to Kings Cross then change onto the Northern line to Angel. The tube is by far the cheapest way from the airport. Should be about 55mins.
I take it all back, you can fly into Heathrow!

Thanks, any good links for cheap flights at all?
I heard stanstead is near - sorry i really do not know london at all. Or gatwick? But you think heathrow is best?
it depends on your definition of near i suppose!
These London Airports are served from Edinburgh, by the airlines shown:

London City: CityJet & BA

Gatwick: easyJet & BA

Heathrow: Bmi & BA

Luton: easyJet

Stansted: easyJet

easyJet offer £40.99 outbound, as follows:
1905 to Stansted, landing at 2025
1955 to Luton, landing at 2110
2000 to Gatwick, landing 2130
2050 to Stansted, landing at 2210
2115 to Gatwick, landing at 2245

You've not stated what time you want to return on the 31st. easyJet have a total of 12 flights available, across the three airports, ranging from £34.99 (ex Stansted at 1140, arriving at 1255) up to £78.99.

So easyJet to & from Stansted might be your best option. (I've not checked out the other airlines but they won't be significantly cheaper).

Trains leave Stansted every 15 minutes, taking 35 minutes to get to Tottenham Hale. From there it's just 3 stops along the Victoria Line (under 10 minutes) to Highbury & Islington station.

The ONLY places to look for cheap flights are the the websites of the airlines that I've listed. Remember that prices go up as you approach the date of your flight. (i.e. it might cost you far more to book after midnight tonight than before it).

Stansted and Gatwick are miles out. Luton is marginally better but I would stick to Heathrow or London City if I was you. Especially if you are travelling in the evening and you want to get to where you are going before it gets too late.
Stansted isn't exactly near but there's an 'express' train (not really that fast) that goes to Liverpool St, which is only a few tube stops from King's Cross and then Angel. So that might suit your purpose (if anyone actually flies Edinburgh-Stansted). Tube from Heathrow to Angel will be an hour or more; or you could take the Heathrow Express to Paddington as sandyRoe says - that is fast, but also very expensive. Gatwick's a long way to the south, so not really in the rightplace for you.
if you choose Luton you can get the train straight into St Pancras, then just 1 stop on the Northern line to Angel.. if that's the tube station you're after.
There are tube services from Heathrow and London City but not the other airports.

the tube from Heathrow to Angel will take you (quite a long way) through central London, which may be very busy. I still think Luton- St Pancras - Angel

Ok think i have sorted this but if somebody who lives in london or knows it well can confirm that i am right, please do!!

If I fly into Heathrow : Take the London Underground Piccadilly Line to Kings Cross which takes about 1 hr and from there take the Tube 1 stop away to Angel

If I fly into Luton : Take the train to Kings Cross which takes about 30mins and from there take the Tube 1 stop away to Angel

So is Angel a stop? Which would you say is quicket/cheapest altogether? Are there any other alternative routes?
yes, it's a tube station. if you know where you're staying let us know the first part of the post code we could check if it's the nearest tube station.
