My partner has a diawa high performance match rod HPB- 1
2mm
which is a graphite? Carbon? Unsure.. Fishing rod. I decided to clean it for him and used WD 40 on the joint then pushed the two pieces together. They stuck fast and nothing I did seperated them. It is a year on and I am desperate to seperate my rod as it is too long for the car! The WD40 is dried up I shoul imagine and the pieces are tight together no gap to pour any oil or anything to disolve the lubricant. I have tried twisting the two ends I oposite directions with a friend!!nothing will make it budge at all. Please has anyone any helpful suggestions as this is a £350 rod and they do not make them anymore. If noone can help does anyone have one I can buy off them!? Thanks p.s partner does not know as yet!!!! Oooo

Try pushing the parts 'together' more, before trying to pull them apart. Works on a similar principle to screwing a stuck screw 'in' a little further before trying to screw it 'out'.
or... put some crushed ice in a bag and wrap it around the stuck joint and leave for 1o minutes. This 'may' cause one part of the rod to constrict enough to loosen it...

Will try this, not holding much hope though! I am going to get a big telling off from my partner!!
Try laying the joint on a softish but firm surface ( terry towel on a chopping block for example) and tap it gently with a rubber mallet (or lay terry towelling or similar over it and use a rolling pin or similar) whilst rotating it the joint.gradually increase the strength of tapping until it either separates (hopefully)
You could always try pouring very hot water over the outer part of the rod joint only while twisting it apart in the hope that it will expand due to the heat and loosen itself.
Just a thought!!
If it does work, don't tell the partner what you did!
