I've always wanted to learn to play chess , I know which way the pieces move but that's about it . With Vista's built in game now is a good time . Can someone please tell me of a good online tutor , I've googled it but don't know which to choose . TIA

Hillyhugger, I have not yet found a good on line tutor.
they seem to show just the basic moves or analyse past games of the masters.
I would suggest a good book, a quick search on Amazon comes up with quite a few, although a visit to a bookshop will let you peruse before you buy.
It's a great game, you will enjoy it.

My daughter is a chess fanatic...although she is self taught and fairly cr@p at it!
I took her to a schools chess tournament on Bank Hol Monday and I was asking the organiser the same question.
He too said that there are no on line tutorials worth bothering with. He recommended several books (none of which I can remember).
What amazed me was that the organisers son (no. 1 in the country in his age group) spent 30 mins coaching my daughter in the lunch break - and after that she won every game. He said that a couple of hours tuition from a chess coach would up her level from novice to intermediate.
It might be worth your while finding a coach and a local club and investing in some real life tuition.
