I was wondering ... what's the difference between 'cross stitch' and 'counted cross stitch'?

I hope this isn't a corporate question :)

Cross stitch is worked on Aida with one X over one square, and can be be worked on any fabric such as linen and are generally worked over two threads. Counted means counted thread .
