I bought a lot of stamps last year with a reindeer on them as It was chap deal, (for oldies I seem to remember) but never used them all, so can I use them for this years Christmas cards? and as the price has gone up do I have to add a another stamp to make the price up?

No ..they are still valid...if they say 1st they are still treated as such..no need to supplement....
Or 2nd!
No extra stamps needed.
This is why it's worth buying a large batch of stamps each year before the prices go up. The stamps say 1st and 2nd, irrespective of what the postal rate is at the time of mailing. I'm still using stamps I bought a couple of years ago, they're still valid.
All unused stamps are valid, I recently received a small parcel and some of the stamps on it were first issued in the sixties.
