Am going to Eastbourne in August (I live abroad) and would like to know of a few decent (and cheap) shops which sell modern clothes in larger sizes.  I am a size 16.  I do go to Primark (in Brighton) and I love it but surely there are more shops.

H & M! pretty cheap, fashionable clothes that aren't so a la mode that they'll be unwearable in about 3 weeks, good quality clothes too

Most shops these days have a section for the larger sizes.  New Look, Mark 1, Dorothy Perkins and H&M all do and are all pretty reasonable, although the main ranges in these shops usually go up to 18 or 20's.

And then there is Evans which is a lot more fdashionalble these days than it used to be although probably a bit more expensive than those aabve.

As Sammy Snake said almost all High Street stores go up to at least a 16 and normally a few sizes more. Etam have a substantial larger sizes range and New Look are good too.

Brill thank you very much - look out for a fashionable fatty!!!
Not sure, but T.J.Hughes might be a worth a look.
depending on what items of clothing you are interested in, I have bought several t shirts, a pair of jeans and a summer dress at QS in larger sizes and they, although not cutting edge, are modern (strappy t shirts, cropped faded jeans , floaty dress)
Also Debenhams, M&S.

Ooops sorry I meant Fastbarry
i would like to point out, just because you have problems with your self-esteem and think you are a "fashionable fatty", doesn't mean you need to bring other people who are a size 16 down with you, I am size 16 and I don't think I'm fat (bigger than I would like to be, yes, but not fat) neither do my family or my boyfriend. Maybe people who are size 16 are bigger than the norm, but that doesn't make all of us fat

Ha ha purplefish I am the last person in the world with low self esteem but I can certainly joke against myself - you should try it someday - and no I do not think I am fat for one minute  - just have a big bosom.  Get a life!

netibiza I apologise, I overreacted, sorry.
I don't live in the area so don't know if there is one, but peacocks is very reasonable :o)
