Was going to ask this under TV, but feel this the more appropriate forum for the answer I seek. Do convicted prisoners share cells with prisoners on remand? My instinct is to say no, but I would welcome an informed response.

You have a good point there mike, I don't think a remand prisoner would share with a murderess, and I have never seen wooden bunk-beds in cells either, especially with the screw heads showing.

I beg to differ, but this question was NOT answered previously. Posting of opinions does not make a satisfactory answer. Fortunately other answers have managed to fifft the fog somewhat.

Thank you all once again for sharing your answers with me. My gut reaction was that as prisoners on remand are technically innocent until convicted or otherwise, they should not be subject to the normal prison regime. I am of an age to remember that when prisoners were sentenced to death they were allowed no contact with other prisoners, even in the prison chapel, where they were concealed behind a curtain.
