I lived in London for 19 years, in rented property, (who can afford to buy in London) only the rich, famous and immigrants. When we were burglered we decided to get out. They did not take just the valuables but every thing we owned. We left our jobs and started again in a small town. We took jobs below our qualifications and got on with it .We now own our home and look forward to retirement in a small town. I must say though I still miss London.

London? Dreadful place!
In answer your question ...

I hope not ...

but it would explain a lot
I like London as a place to visit/stay for short periods... spent more time up there recently but not sure I could live there permanently... too damn expensive...

NOK from Doncaster, last time you said cas was a dump
No, I'm from Epsom in Surrey but now live in Hastings. My husband lived here when I met him so I moved here when we got married. I have to admit I would rather be back in Epsom as most of my family are there but I can't afford to move back.

C Kirk am I missing something. I don't understand
I'm a Londoner born and bred in Waterloo where my mum was born and my dad is an Eastender from Stepney. I mortgaged my 3 bed terraced in SE london for £9,500 in 1976 when I was 19. I suppose I paid about £25k for it over 25 years now it's worth about £200k, so my 2 girls get about £100k each when I peg it. I'd like to move to the sea-side when I retire though if I can still keep their money intact.
I have to go up to London on business sometimes, but I don't like it.

And no ... I'm not a Londoner ... crikey, yuck !
just stirring any available COCKneys around

I use to go to a pub after work just off regents street called the clacken I think if my memory is good. Is it still there
I can see what you mean caslass.I lived in London for twenty odd years .We bought in the early 80's .We went because of my husbands job and lived in Wimbledon . .We were never burgled and I felt as safe as houses. Obviously we racked up a couple of bob when we sold up and moved getting on for seven years ago .We've now retired and live in a small seaside town on the east coast but I have to say ,hand on heart I miss London :)

I miss the buzz and the culture and the many friends I made there .They say Londoners are unfriendly but that's not true .
Where I live now you have to clean your windows three times a week or they talk about you:)
Insular and small town gossipers. If it wasn't for the fact that I have family here I would clear off back to the smoke ,no worries . That is if I win the lottery because we couldn't afford it now .I've been around the block a bit and I loved living in London . Happiest days of my life .Coming back to my roots has been an eye opener Nothing is ever the same .
Even my husband now admits we made a mistake and should have stayed put .Life's a gamble .All the best for the future and a Happy Christmas .
I have friends in Epsom Jan :)
We live near Rye in East Sissex, but visit London for exhibitions, shows and films about 6 times a year.
It's nice to visit, but I wouldn't want ti live there.
Too noisy,polluted and busy!

Brighton is a bit like Monaco.

A bit more cheesey, perhaps.
