Can these go together (wife says no - I say yes)? If yes can you provide links to photos to (hopefully) convince her. We are going to a wedding in 3 weeks & she is wearing a black dress & doesn't want me in the beige(ish) linen suit that I would normally wear for a summer do so I was hoping to informalise (new word) my black suit a little. No - I can't afford a new suit, current economic bah-di-blah.

Well I've occasionally done so inadvertently.

No one apart from my wife has noticed - or if they have they've been too polite to say so.

So it can't be that big a gaffe, though I'm assured it is one.
Personally I would never brown shoes with a black suit, but that's the way I was brought up.

It's the same reason I never do the bottom button up on a waistcoat.

That said. times have changed and almost anything goes today. I still keep my jacket on until the MC says "gentlemen may now remove their jackets" and I loathe seeing rolled up sleeves and a top button undone with the tie half way down the shirt!
I'd wear the beige linen and tell her it's your choice......but black suit and brown shoes........er no....
Generally its a no.
it's a no from me too.

Then how is it that Italians allegedly do not own any black shoes?
Meadow... don't do it!

Its a similar thing to 'matching collar and cuffs'...
lol i think there must be at least one man in the whole of italy with at least 1 pair of black shoes
Personally I would criticise her choice. A black dress to a summer wedding?
the answer is no the shoes will stand out like a sore thumb.if you are economising on the suit, surely you can buy an inexpensive pair of black shoes, the sales are on at the moment so you can probably pick up a nice dear pair for half price.
i shoul`ve said brown shoes look o.k with black trousers and a shirt but not if your wearing solid colour
looks like i`m chatting to myself, lol

because most of the time they wear linen suits and it depends on the suit, loafers look lovely with a lightweight suit,

why black its summer?
Brown SHoes with a Black Suit?
NO<.A fashion FAux~Pas of the first measure.
However,I am 86,so possibly live in another century fashionwise!
I mean I have never worn suede shoes,my parents told me only gays (well they said poofs) wore them! LOL
Meadowgrove I don't know where you got the Italian idea from, but I was in Rome in May (we have an Italian Son in Law) and the shops had shoes of ALL sorts of colours, and YES lots were black!
