plasterboarding ceiling

Can I use 9.5mm plasterboard instead of 12mm to cover old ceiling and what type and size screw do I use.

No reason why not Skelton........ I assume you're covering a lath and plaster ceiling .......... if so, then use 70mm "Drywall" screws
