I have BT broadband but my friend lives in a remote area where this is not available. Which would be her best option otherwise?? We live in N. Ireland.

Hi 'darcydark' ...if she is in a remote area thefirdt thing would be to find out what 'broadband providers' are available. Go to www.broadband.co.uk and enter the postcode. (if it's Northern Ireland it might not cover it, but there must be an equivalent site if it doesn't)
if you can't get it from BT then you probably can't get it from anyone, BT still own the lines and the exchanges and just rent them to other providers.
I understood that broadband was available in all areas of Northern Ireland, where I live too. We use Virgin which is excellent but not in all areas yet. Sky, & UTV also cover large areas of NI. I'd be surprised if some ISP didn't cover remote areas.
