Ive always found Remingtons to be just as good as GHD's.
remmigtons or nicky clarke have a good pair out at the moment - digital ones - i like them better than GHD's!!!
I only use Wella pro straight. 45 at any Hairdresser. Better than any expensive ones.
Boots have Vidal Sassoon hair straighteners reduced to 19.99. I use these and have very strong hair and they work brilliantly. There is the additonal incentive of boots points.
Nicky clarke do some wicked ones, they are better for your hair, and they really do seem to work, my hair is hardly frizzy at all now! argos had them on sale for about 20 quid a couple of weeks ago
hi fat otter is that the ones at 17 something squid
All straightners over 210 degrees are all just as good!!! Its just that GDHs last for years!!
GHD's are the best, but if you REALLY can't afford them then get onto Ebay and get yourself a pair of H2D's. They're a cheaper version, but still very, very good.
Hi toecrusher.
My boyf has some really skinny ghd's which are great but when I'm rushing in the morning they're not ideal as the plates aren't wide enough so they can take a little while to do my hair as it's long and when it's a work day I don't have a little while to spare! So I wanted a pair with wider plates but didn't want to spent lots because I can be a bit whimsical about these things and am not sure if I'll be too tired and won't end up using them.

I spoke to a really nice girl in boots who said she had a pair of babyliss and they're great but the plates on hers are quite narrow - as was all of the ones in boots. So on her recommendation, I popped to Argos and they had a pair of Babyliss with the wide plates - they were originally (in the last catalogue) 49.99 and in this one are 34.99 but on special offer for 23.99 at the moment. I got them and have just tried them - and I'm really pleased with the results. They heat up within 30 secs and go to 230 degrees and I couldn't really tell the difference in using them or the ghds. That said I have pretty straight hair anyway and just use straightners as a finish, but I would say if they continue like this I'll be happy. They also have a function where you can charge them and use them cordless.
ps the Nicky Clarkes mentioned above are still on sale in Argos too.
hi toecrusher, i bought a pair os she mk4 straighteners from ebay for 45 including delivery and they are excellent, just the same as ghd's but half the price!! my hair is naturally curly and can become frizzy but these keep it perfectly straight!!
