I have got a ring (I found it in a pub and because the owner did not come forward the police said I could keep it) and I want to sell it on eBay. I know that the ring is silver because it has a hallmark, but it has 3 "diamonds" on it, however, i don't actially know if they are diamonds or cubic zirconia. My question is, should I advertise it on eBay as diamond or just diamond effect / cubic zirconia? I can't be bothered going to get it tested beacuse I just want to get rid of it!

Don't advertise it as diamond unless you are sure as the buyer could get it tested and come back if it was incorrectly described.

On the other hand if it is diamond you should state that it is to get the best price!

Take it into a jewellers, they should be able to tell you there and then.
If you think it is worth it, you would be better getting your local auctioneers to sell it. They could take care of the description so no comeback on you.
I would just take it to a jewellers that sells second hand jewellery and say you want an appraisal as you are thinking of selling it.
do as reverandfunk says: the difference in price could make it a pretty profitable enterprise if it is diamonds. If you sold it as zirconia and it turned out to be diamond you'd feel like those people who sell a boring old Victorian painting and find it was actually a priceless Rembrandt
