Does anyone know if it is possible to buy a transformer that will allow me to use an air compressor, powered by the car lighter, indoors from the electricity supply. I don't fancy hauling the airbeds outside whenever I need to inflate them. Thanks.

You will need something that has a step down transformer 240volts to 12 volts then a rectifier to turn it into DC for supply from the mains. And Cigarette socket for straight supply fom the car battery. I don't think anything like this is made, you will probably have to to buy two items.
You can get this sort of thing http://car.brando.com.hk/prod_detail.php?prod_ id=00072&dept_id=001&cat_id=043
I have one for car chargers etc indoors, this one is from HK but they are a very reliable company but I'm sure you can source one in the UK. You just need to make sure that your compressor doesn't pull more than the 500ma these give.
pureevoke answer not very helpful and not really accurate a 12v AC does not become 12 DC if simply rectified.

Thanks everybody. I now have a starting point to go from. Maplins here I come.
I just use a car battery charger, does the job perfectly!!
Buy a mains voltage device to inflate the air beds from ALDI priced at 6.99 a lot faster than the 12 volt compressor and probably the cheapest option.

Thanks to both Ratter and Solera - both ideas sound easy. We have an Aldi in town so I can go there tomorrow.
