has anyone bought clone (copycat) golf clubs looking like the major brand names but without the top whack prices? I have been looking at a brand called pinemeadow & their website looks good with good feedback. Any experience anyone?

You may find you will get what you pay for. A lot of technology goes in to golf club design and there is not much to choose between the leading brands and usually it is a question of whether you like the look and feel of a particular club or set. The very cheap producers will not have had the benefit of the research carried out by the top brands. Of particular importance is the shaft and invariably cheap clubs will have cheap shafts which are not made to such high standards. If you go to a golf pro shop, he will let you try out various types of shaft flex to see which type suits your physique and playing ability. For instance, senior and lady players usually need a whippier shaft flex to compensate for their loss of strength whereas someone with big forearms would be better off with a stiff shaft. Most players are ok with a regular shaft.
