Murder: 1.24 times US average
Forcible rape 1.18 times
Robery 1.25 times
Burglary 1.5 times
Larceny or theft 2.28 times

Theft crimes seem up a bit, violent crimes just peeking above the average.

Incidently that's still 17 murders a year in a city not much larger than Bournemouth

Thanks alot. :D
Although I've no argument with JTP, one must keep in mind that Salt Lake City proper is a small part of a huge metroplex. The front range population runs nearly 1 million people and Salt Lake City is the older, more centrally located downtown if you will. The group of towns and cities considered to be part of Salt Lake City is stretched out in a rather narrow band from north to south because of the Great Salt Lake on the west and the Wasatch Mountain range on the east...

This is true Pickle, but if deciding whether SLC is a safe place to live you don't really care if the criminals are home grown or imports.

Horses for courses I guess.

It is a strange place though - when I was there you could drink spirits in the hotel bars as you were a "club member" automatically but they had a law against cocktails so you could order one and it'd come in constituent glasses and you'd have to mix it yourself.

Skiing just outside SLC is fabuluos though
