Selling Jewellery

Hi,
I have a bracelet to sell and I think it's worth quite a lot. How can I get the ball rolling on selling this item to a jewellery shop? Do I need to make phonecalls first, or is it better to simply trawl the jewellers themselves? I've never done anyhting like this before, so any help would be appreciated!
