What is the best way to go about selling an engagement ring? The high street jewellers were offering peanuts only for it, whereas it was bought for about 2000. Where am I going to get the most money for it?

Well if you've tried jewellers then I suppose that just leaves private buyers. Perhaps you could try e-bay, at least you can put a reserve on it and hopefully make back some of the money you spent.
You need to have proof of ownership i would imagine, if you try to sell it anywhere, about 2000? Do you have the reciept?

I do not have anything to prove it is mine! Would a jewellers be able to re-issue papers for it?

And by the way, it is my girlfriend who is selling them, from a past relationship! I was just trying to find out the best way to sell them....I guess without receipt or proof of authenticity it is going to be tough yeah? This must happen all the time though.....
That's why they will offer you a reduced price i am afraid.
if you didn't buy it are you sure its worth 2000 pounds e.g. are you sure the guy before you wasn't upping the price he paid a bit when he told the gf. Get it properly valued by a reputable valuer - make it clear to him that it is for insurance purposes not to sell on so that he isn't tempted to offer you a small amount for it... might actually only be worth a couple of hundred
