Bloody kindle!!! I recently bought some Kelloggs crunchy nut cornflakes and had a bowl this morning. I was shocked at the sweetness of the cereal. Looking at the ingredient list, it lists 35 grams of sugar per 100!!!!! I literally was like eating a bowl of sugar!!!!
Vile.
Did you put sugar on them?
Try Special K next.
Question Author
Tilly, no I did not. I rarely eat sugar.
Question Author
Yes I think I will try that next. I had been eating bran flakes and was getting fed up with them.
Special K are 12g per 100 - for the lowest try weetabis or bite size shredded wheat.
I had run out of porridge oats and bought some 'instant' porridge (not Ready Brek) to tide me over. Yeugh. It was just like spooning sugar into my mouth. We diabetics really have to look at the info on the packaging before buying.
Ken, you must have bought flavoured porridge. The original porridge sachets have no sugar added
I am also diabetic and some cereals are beyond when it comes to sugar!!! Porridge Oats = 0.5g per 100 - Weetabix 4.4dg per 100 and shredded wheat 0.9g per 100.
Try the supermarket own brand usually called Special Flakes with red berries - a lot cheaper and I can't taste the difference
Probably barry, though it won't happen again. I have 4 x 1kg bags in the cupboard to keep me going through the winter :-)
Crazy amounts of sugar in some products!
Oh I know! I had some a few weeks ago, never again..Why all the sugar? It's awful.
I tried some Shreddies last week, they're quite nice, slightly sweet tho.
I'm back to my Alpen no sugar now.
Question Author
I really hope that not many kids are eating these overloaded cereals.
That's the worry Sharon.
That's 'no added sugar', Patsy - still 16g per 100g. I must confess I miss Alpen
I bought that a few years ago. Nice taste but as you say soooo sweet!! I actually wrote to Kelloggs and said if they’d consider making a grown up version I would buy them again. They never did - and neither did I.
As a comparison Coco Pops are 17%. Of course, most people, kids included, don't eat the recommended portion size of any cereal - it barely covers the bottom of the bowl.
When I were lad it was normal to shovel spoonfuls of sugar on to cornflakes, weetabix and all cereals.
It's the hidden sugar in savoury things that is a huge problem too.
They put sugar in absolutely everything. If it’s so bad for us, they should be making things less sweet, not adding a load of horrible sweetners.

I can’t find a decent pickled onion or beetroot lately. Sugar is usually the second largest ingredient on the label and they taste far too sweet to me.
