Leaf Tea Versus Tea Bag Tea

Last month I posted that I was returning to leaf tea and asked for suggestions as to which make to buy. I plumped for Yorkshire and will never return to tea bags whether made in the teapot or in the mug (must be china mug btw). I now use only leaf tea made in a pre-heated (with boiling water) stainless steel teapot.
I also heat the china mug with boiling water. I bought a small Stellar s/s teapot with my first pay on returning to part time work as an oldie. It makes about 0.75 of a pint and is
beyond delicious and worth the five minute delay it takes over tea bag tea. Thanks to everyone who replied in March.

Where do you put the tea leaves, Stargazer?
The only drawback with leaf tea is that you need a tea strainer.
Yes, I was expecting you to ask about that too.
If I make leaf tea I put it in with the garden/ food recycling Tilly.
Couldn't it be done in a cafetiere?

I've never had loose tea so wouldn't know.
I mostly use tea bags these days, but sometimes I use one of these ::::::

I can recommend these as you don't need a tea strainer !
I presume a cafetiere wouldn't resume the heat to get the full taste of the leaf like a teapot would ummmm x
Tea, unlike coffee, should only be made with boiling water. This would be enough to shatter any glass receptacle.
Well that seems to be the same process as a cafetiere Mikey, what do I know ummmm!

I always put boiling water in mine, Jack.
It's entirely possible that the Bodum teapot is thicker glass, I don't know?
We have a glass teapot with a built in infuser. It's not shattered yet and we use boiling water..
Also, in a teapot, you have a bigger area for the leaves to swirl and infuse?
I have been using my Bodum on and off for 20 years, and its not shattered yet !

I never came across teabags till I joined the RAF. Before that there was a strict protocol to making tea. Firstly the kettle would be brought to the boil (anyone remember whistling kettles?). The teapot would then be filled with boiling water and left to stand for a few minutes to warm right through. The teapot would then be emptied, the water reboiled, tea leaves added (one spoonful per person and one for the pot), water poured on,tea cosy attached and wait for five minutes for it to 'mash'.
Eleena....its a quality object for sure, but hardly expensive if its still going after so many years. I am very careful washing it though !
