i think it is their job, and they are well trained for '' major incidents'' and should not be taken for granted,
They just did their job.

Award? what sort of award?

No, I think that would be inappropriate.
I agree with the others. It's their job.

What I meant was an award such an honour from the queen in the honours list
Why?

What about the emergency services that deal with pile ups on the motorways? Where do you actually stop?
The emergency service workers involved in yesterday's tragedy will have the grateful thanks of the city.

That will probably be sufficient for them...
From what I have read and seen, the Emergency Workers were doing their job, in their normal efficient fashion. If we gave them a medal every time they did their jobs properly, they would be attending medal ceremonies all the time, instead of accidents.
As a retired fireman who dealt with only 1 similar incident in my 25 years (M4 crash, 4 dead and 64 injured) it would not be appropriate to give these people awards - they would say the same themselves I am sure. As the saying goes "they go where others fear to read" without a thought - it's second nature to them.

Yes they do a good job just the same as others do, but unlike the fire-service, the police or specially the Armed Services, I have never known any that risk their lives in the pursuance of their duties.

They did their job, the one that they are trained for, brilliantly as always.
But that's it, they were just doing their job!
Why not ? Such national "honours" have meant B all for some time now. Standard now to get them for doing one's job, or making financial contributions to political parties, or simply having friends in "high places".
I seem to recall that the Beatles got awards for pop songs. Not to mention all the awards that were showered on a certain BBC DJ !
