Are the * items on my tesco till reciept * because they have VAT? If so why are some thing considered luxury items and others not?

And why the hell am I still having to pay VAT on tampons? these are not luxury items surely?

Sanitary protection products are indeed considered 'luxury items' Lozzz, and I think the government are the people to talk to about that!
Might be worth having a look at the question on 'Mooncup' in Body and Soul  !!!
I understand the problem, i used to write to my MP about VAT on sanitary protection, but then I had a TCRE and didn't need them so I broke off contact.

Alas, unless us ladies wish to cover the planets with our monthlies we are indeed charged for our hygiene products.

Asda always used to have VAT free promotions on them but I've not known that for a while.

It is only the very basic goods that are considered necessary and therefore all others are luxury.

If i were Prime Minister, I would have a great long list of essentials and not just bread and milk!

yeah, if the product has a * next to it, it's classed as a luxury!!
