I have reset my Alcatel one touch smartphone to factory settings so as to clean everything off it before I give it to my daughter, but have a panic thought as it was unlocked privately (not by the phone company) have i locked it again by restoring factory settings, damn and blast if I have!!

I believe the answer to your question is no!

The unlocking process, presumably you mean where the phone can now connect to any phone companies service, should not be affected by a reset.

Of course you could always check that 'theory' by putting another phone company SIM in, e.g. pay-as-you-go SIM and testing it!
if your on asda mobe they use Vodafone
tesco mobe use o2 so does giffgaff all those will work if your on either of those
but try what pinkboyd says

I'm with a spanish company, so thank you both, I do not have as yet another sim only the original and do not want to put that in in case it locks onto it (I know, I know silly old woman!!) Daughter is due back tonight so will wait and try hers, if all else fails I guess I'll have to spend 30€ getting it unlocked again.

Thanks.
it wont" lock "on to a sim

I know deggers but strange things happen to me, ie one unlocked phone used for years with different sims, suddenly would not accept them and would only accpet the original sim, and I had not touched the settings or anything!
