Got a fitting for a bridesmaid dress this week and Berketex said that I would need to order a size 14..... I am normally a size 10 in dresses, as their dresses usually are small for the size stated. Was wondering if anyone knew if this was the case. I could understand going up one size but 2 seems a bit OTT!? (Measurements 36, 30, 37). Didn't get a chance to try one on as they were so busy and couldn't wait as I had to catch a train. I live 3 hours away from nearest shop, so don't fancy the trip just to try one on now - will if I have to but thought I'd ask here first. Thanks for any advice.

It's only a number. You are the size that you are. Different companies have different standards for cutting garments, and these are probably in any case coming in from China where they have truly miniscule sizing.
Wear what fits you. Take the company's advice then it's their liability.
I think I read on here a while back a thread about wedding dresses and lots of people saying the sizing is drastically different from high street sizes. I'd go with what they say assuming they know your measurements.
as far as I know size 14 has always been a 36 inch. bust
I wore a size 16 for a 38 inch.
Women's clothes sizing is ridiculous. In one transaction at Tesco's I bought two garments which both fitted snugly. The skirt was a size 8, the jumper was a size 14.
I still don't know what to make of that.
I dont know about Berketex specifically, but I ordered a very expensive dress to be made for a very special occasion. I'm size 10-12 and I was measured when I chose the style. When I arrived to collect it, it was size 18!! I could have wrapped it around me twice!! I was in tears, and time was short so I ended up going elsewhere and buying one ready made - but never again will I order a dress to be made for me!!
I was talking about general sizing not just Berketex,I have had a look at some old dress patterns and bust 36 is a size 14 1n the UK and a size 10 in USA, perhaps that explains it

Thank you for your responses, I was hoping that someone had a Berketex dress to compare with. The sizes I stated were the Berketex ones but upon measuring myself a day later, I'm a 34C, 27 waist and 34 hips, so therefore I will go and try a dress on. Many thanks anyway.
